Circle of Robert Fagan,
British c.1761-1816-
Portrait of a girl, possibly Frances 'Fanny' Nelson;
oil on canvas, 61 x 50.5 cm., (unframed).
Note: The present work, presumably conceived in the latter years of the 18th Century, is very much in the style of works by Robert Fagan. Fanny Nelson (1758-1831) is best known as the wife of Horatio Nelson, the British naval officer who achieved several victories over the French during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. The suggestion of the connection with Fanny Nelson is based on resemblance.
