Professor Federico Zeri suggested, at the time of the Christie's sale, that this and the following lot are likely to be parts of the same composition and that an old copy of the entire work is in the Museo Civico, Padua. The two canvases appear to be by the same hand as a pair of works, offered as Vincenzo Campi, at Christies, London, 29 March 1981, lot 131.
