Dr Fred G. Meijer examined the painting in the original in 2015 and proposed a possible attribution to Jan Potheuck (1626–1670). A signed fruit still life by Jan Potheuck, dated 1667 (oil on canvas, 67 × 60 cm), which may be used as a stylistic comparison, is mentioned in the exhibition catalogue Gemaltes Licht: Die Stilleben von Willem Kalf 1619-1693, Rotterdam and Aachen 2007, p. 154, p. 153, ill. 17.
Oil on canvas, lined, with paper adhesive strips along the margins. Paint surface well preserved, with a fine network of craquelure. Colour abrasion along the margins.
Under UV light a few small areas of retouching visible on the fruit, in the background and along the margins. Varnish fluoresces unevenly greenish.
Overall in good condition.
Frame: 80.5 × 66.5 cm.
