Civil War presentation sword and letter/document grouping related to Henry H. Fetterolf who served as an officer in the 129th Pennsylvania Infantry and later the 34th Pennsylvania Emergency Militia including: 1.)Civil War Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer's Presentation sword presented to Captain H. H. Fetterolf. Sword measures 39.5" (blade 34"). Blade exhibits engraving with spotting and some rust. Sword presents raised skin grip and sword knot. Brass scabbard presents engraved presentation between second mount and drag "ALWAYS READY, PRESENTED BY THE MEMBERS OF CO. C 34TH REGT, P.M. TO THEIR CAPTAIN H. H. FETTEROLF AS A TOKEN OF HONOR AND RESPECT. JULY 14TH 1863". Scabbard exhibits even toning. Sword housed in period cloth carrying bag. 2.) Civil War eagle head discharge for Fetterolf as 1st lieutenant of Company I, 129th Pennsylvania Infantry dated May 18, 1863. 3.) Muster in roll (8"x12.5") for Fetterolf dated December 5, 1862 and signed by Colonel Jacob G. Frick of the 129th Pennsylvania Infantry. 4.) Civil War discharge for Fetterolf as Captain of Company C, 34th Pennsylvania Militia dated August 10, 1863 signed by Colonel Charles Albright of the 34th Pennsylvania (Emergency) Militia. 5.) Appointment of Fetterolf as first sergeant of Company I, 129th Pennsylvania Infantry dated August 21, 1862 and signed by Colonel Jacob G. Frick of the 129th Pennsylvania Infantry. 6.) Grouping of 39 letters written by Fetterolf to his brother Adam during his Henry's service in the 129th Pennsylvania. Most letters are contained in original envelopes (stamps removed). Content includes travels, camp life, conditions, weather, food, and some engagement information. 7.) Leather bound company roll book for Company C, 34th Pennsylvania Emergency Militia measuring 15.5" x 10" x 1". Henry H. Fetterolf (1839-1928) Born in Perkiomen Township Pennsylvania. Fetterolf attended Freeland Seminary (now Ursinus College) to become a teacher graduating in 1858. During the Civil War he served as a first lieutenant, Company I, 129th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry and a captain of Company C, 34th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia. He was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a congressman in 1898. Provenance: Eugene T.
