Civil War: Union General John Schofield letter. A framed letter by Union Major General John Schofield dated January 27, 1867, written on "Head Quarters First Military District, State of Virginia" letterhead and addressed to Colonel Henry M. Cist, Corresponding Secretary, Committee of Arrangements, Cincinnati, Ohio. Schofield thanks Cist for "extending to me, on behalf of your committee, an invitation to meet with the officers of the late "Army of the Cumberland" at Cincinnati on the 6th of February next... The actions of that grand old Army have already become a part of the history of the Country, but it is fitting that the men who participated in its achievements should take steps to commemorate and keep alive the feelings of fraternity and concord. . ." Print matted with double sided glass includes a lithograph of General Schofield and a newspaper article on the reverse entitled "Gen. Schofield to Retire." Frame measures 13.5" x 19.5", In excellent condition.
