Clara Caffrey Pancoast was a prolific landscape, still life, and street scene painter based in San Antonio, Texas. She studied with noted artists Jose Arpa and Wilson K. Nixon, eventually completing more than 500 oils, etchings and watercolors depicting the Texas she knew, while also serving as a full-time newspaper editor. Pancoast spent time in Alpine, Texas in the art colony there, and exhibited at the Texas Fine Arts Association, the Texas Artists' Exhibition, the Edgar B. Davis Competition and the Southern States Art League.
