Classical Greek Leaded Bronze Vessel Handles (pr)

Greece, Classical period, ca. mid-5th century BCE. A fine pair of matching cast leaded-bronze handles, that perhaps graced the sides of a vessel such as a hydria. The fluted surface on each creates a fine texture and the profile is slightly curved towards the center. The terminal ends flare into a flat, discoidal attachments; these handles would have been the horizontal holds for carrying the vessel. A rich patina covers the surfaces of both! Size: 1.75" W x 4.35" H (4.4 cm x 11 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
