Claude Flight, British 1881-1955- Breaking Waves, c.1931; linocut in colours on laid, signed and numbered 2/50 in pencil, image 25.2 x 30cm (framed) (ARR) Note: Claude Flight was one of the most prominent pioneers of printing with linoleum. Through his championing of a cheap and accessible approach to printing, Flight hoped to expose all classes of people to the world of fine art; he viewed the linoleum cut technique as truly neutral and equitable. Inspired by the industrial and geometric Vorticism, as well as Cubism, Flight created a unique style interested in the depiction of movement and speed, producing works with great fluidity and kineticism.
