Description:A dramatic coastal landscape depicting a rugged shoreline framed by monumental cliffs and scattered rock formations beside a luminous expanse of sea. The composition is dominated by a towering cliff rising from the water at left-center, its steep face modeled through layered passages of gray, blue-green, violet, ochre, and reddish-brown, while the sunlit plateau above is rendered in warmer tones of yellow, orange, and green. Large irregular boulders occupy the right foreground and extend toward the water, creating a powerful sense of geological mass and providing a structural counterpoint to the open sea at left. The foreground beach is articulated through broad passages of brown, rust, ochre, violet, and muted orange punctuated by smaller touches suggesting stones and uneven coastal terrain. Across the water, short broken strokes of turquoise, blue, green, white, and pale yellow convey the shifting surface of the sea and the effects of reflected light around partially submerged rocks. The pale atmospheric sky is handled in delicate cream, pink, and blue-gray tones, allowing the strongly modeled cliffs and shoreline to command the composition. The juxtaposition of solid rock formations with rapidly changing water and light, together with the broken handling of color and emphasis on atmospheric conditions, reflects visual characteristics closely associated with Claude Monet's Impressionist exploration of the Normandy coast and his repeated fascination with cliffs, beaches, and the changing character of the sea. The lower left is signed "Claude Monet." The work is presented in a broad white-painted wooden frame with molded detailing.
