Claudia Legge

An underwater photograph by fine art photographer Claudia Legge.

Claudia Legge is returns to underwater photography time and again. In the artist's words, "The light is different there, it dapples and ripples. There are elements you can't control, and the models can express their bodies free from gravity. The force of water is also captivating. People can get hypnotised watching waves in the ocean. No wave is ever the same, and the scale and grandeur of the ocean scares us and fascinates us."

A composed and incidental scene, Playing On The Sides juxtaposes the hard architectural lines of a swimming pool with the soft and playful limbs of nude figures. The gentle focus of the image produces a textural, material feel to the photograph that is timeless and questions the subjects movement - are they fighting to cling to the ledge or are they launching themselves into the deep waters?
