Claudius Marioton (1844-1919) - Large and beautifully executed statue - "Le Travail" - 68.5 cm - Marble, Spelter - Late 19th century

Impressive bronze- patinated image of an athletic, half-undressed male figure. Made by Claudius Marioton, a French sculptor. This beautiful sculpture is signed by the maker on the base and features the text 'Le Génie humain". The sculpture has beautiful and fine details. Notice the way Marioton portrayed the man's musculature. The detailed photo report completes this description. The sculpture stands on a marble pedestal. Like his older brother Eugène, Claudius Marioton is one of the best known and most successful sculptors and medallists of his time. He was educated at the Paris art academy and regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon where he received several honourable mentions and medals. At the 1889 World's Fair he won two gold and one silver medal. For his work he was knighted in 1895 in the 'Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur', the highest and most important French distinction. The Museum of decorative arts in Paris has some of Marioton's works in its collection, including the award-winning "Diogenes". The statue will be carefully packaged and sent in a custom made wooden crate conforming to ISPM no 15519741/742.
