Claus Bertermann (1965) is a German Abstract Expressionist and Art Brut representative with a penchant for abstract painting. After studying architecture at the Technical University of Munich, he worked as an architect until the mid-1990s, later becoming an entrepreneur. He has Spanish roots. His grandfather, Guillermo Castañeda, was a Spanish painter. Bertermann spent his childhood in Spain with his grandparents, where he grew up surrounded by his grandfather's works and where he often watched him paint. In the house there was always this special smell of oil paints and turpentine in the air. Bertermann's work is primarily about transience. He deals with the formation and sedimentation of layers and their future transformation. It's about the present and the past, and the question of the future that inevitably arises from this. Influenced by his architectural training, Bertermann consciously rejects any kind of rules in his work, to a certain extent as a liberation from the strict structures and specifications of architecture. For him, painting means freedom. And for him, abstract expressionism is the highest form of free expression. His way of painting is always impulsive, taking risks, deliberately thoughtless, intuitive. Structural thinking only exists for him in the structure of the paint itself and in the composition. Claus Bertermann mainly uses oil paint, colored ink, acrylic paint and spray. His spiritual mentors and sources of inspiration are Georg Baselitz, Helen Frankenthaler, Jean Dubuffet, Gerhard Richter, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Karel Appel. Only when Bertermann turned 50 did he feel mentally mature enough to devote himself to painting. As a "Late Bloomer" he has been driven since then - he has no time to lose, which is why he cultivates a very fluid painting style, deliberately does not go into details and usually works on several works at the same time. Shipment: Shipping costs are shown for mainland addresses only. Additional shipping charges may apply to addresses outside the mainland, such as islands and overseas territories, but not exceeding the cost for "Rest of World". Customs Information: Any additional costs or charges such as customs duties or import duties, customs clearance and handling fees may also be incurred during the transit of your lot and may be charged to you later by the relevant party.
