The Writings of Mark Twain. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1929

37 volumes, 8vo (219 x 149 mm). First volume with autograph manuscript inserted after the limitation statement, half-titles, title pages printed in blue and black, numerous plates with captioned tissue guards in red, signed by the publisher, many volumes largely unopened. In half black morocco over red boards, ruled in gilt, spine with raised bands in three compartments, the first titled in gilt, the others with decoration in gilt, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers; some minor wear to boards, corners occasionally bumped.

A very handsome collection of Twain's works, with autograph manuscript. The autograph manuscript may perhaps be a page of notes for his autobiography. At the top of the page is a header, "Later Friends", under which Twain lists numerous names, including many prominent writers: William Dean Howells, Bret Harte, Artemus Ward, Dan de Quille, Thomas Bailey Aldrich, Joseph Twichell, among others. Following this, he includes a list of names under the header Quaker City, the vessel he sailed on to Europe when he wrote Innocents Abroad.
