Clinton Adams (American, 1918–2002) was an influential American painter, printmaker, educator, and arts administrator known for his major contributions to modernist lithography and Southwestern abstraction. Closely associated with the Tamarind Lithography Workshop and later the Tamarind Institute, Adams played an important role in the revival of fine art lithography in the United States during the mid-20th century. He served as Dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico and authored several important publications on lithography and printmaking. His works are held in prominent institutional collections including the Museum of Modern Art, National Gallery of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Norton Simon Museum.

Window Series X, 1960, is a color lithograph printed in yellow, black, gray, and warm ochre on Rives BFK wove paper by Garo Antreasian and published by the Tamarind Lithography Workshop. This is the final print in the ten-part Window Series. A yellow oval enclosed by a heavy dark ring dominates the upper field, while a long gray opening and a rough block-like form divide the lower half into successive horizontal bands. Inscribed in graphite “Tamarind Impression” at lower left, titled “Window Series X” at lower center, and signed and dated “Clinton Adams ’60” at lower right, with the Tamarind Impression and printer’s blindstamps in the lower margin. The regular edition consisted of 20 impressions, accompanied by nine workshop-retained Tamarind impressions; the notation identifies this example as one of the latter. Image measures approximately 13 × 9.5 inches. Light age toning and minor handling wear are visible at the sheet edges. Image presents well. Provenance of Martin and Enid Gleich.
