Cloisonne Covered Jar with Dragon Handles

This impressive cloisonne covered jar is crafted on a copper body with a domed cover, a pair of gilt dragon-head handles, three animal-form feet, and an accompanying carved wooden stand. The exterior is richly decorated in cloisonne enamel with stylized taotie masks, key-fret borders, and scrolling cloud motifs executed in harmonious shades of green, blue, yellow, and brown. The sculptural dragon handles complement the bold decorative scheme, lending the vessel a dignified and ceremonial appearance.Produced through the intricate process of applying metal wires, enamel, and repeated kiln firings, cloisonne reached remarkable artistic refinement during the Meiji period.
