An important early archaeological survey of Northern India, lavishly illustrated. Cole commissioned local Indian surveyors, Thakoor Dass and Habeeb-oo-lah, to measure the buildings for the twelve lithographed plates. The photographs were taken by Reverend Simpson, Chaplain of Muttra. Cole was later instrumental in organising the Indian collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
