* 4 printed illustrations from the French press in the 19th century And at the beginning of the 20th century on the subject of the wandering Jew.

* 10 cards illustrated in colorful lithographic print, distributed in chocolate bars CHOCOLAT - LOUIT on the subject of "The Wandering Jew". France, late 19th century and early 20th century. The cards comprise a story in which the wandering Jew is depicted in various scenes. 'Le Juif Errant' is written on each card and the Jew is depicted as a stranger and is spotted to the environment and appears as an eccentric figure to the 'natural' environment. Below the picture are musical notes from various songs about 'The Wandering Jew', the words of the poem were printed from behind. The cards were issued in France in the last decade of the 19th century [including early card from 1886] and at the beginning of the 20th century.

* Three paper covers for white cheese with image of the wandering Jew [20th century].

The legend of the wandering Jew is based on The Middle Ages anti-Semitic folk tale about the Jew who, because he lost his death, could not lose his life, and therefore occasionally appears in different forms and plays different roles. The legend originated in 1228 in a story about a Christian priest who met a Jew, and it served as an object of various anti-Semitic stories about the Jews that appeared in caricatures mainly in nineteenth-century France, portraying the wandering Jew as a foreign threat to human society.

General condition: Very fine.
