The French company Christofle was founded by the jeweller Charles Christofle in 1830 in Paris and has not relocated its headquarters to this day. It is internationally known for its fine silverware and accessories. The French kings Louis Philippe I and Napoleon III are known to have much admired the creations of Christofle. A highlight for the company was the World Exhibition in Paris in 1855, when it was commissioned by Sultan Abdül-Aziz to produce an extravagant chandelier, weighing 75kg. Another of the companys large-scale works was a statue of the Madonna for the church of Notre-Dame de la Garde, in Marseille.

In 2005, Christofle returned to jewellery launching the "Collection 925" by the famous designer Andrée Putman, who also created the Vertigo silverware series.
