Republic Proof 50 Centavos 1892 PR64 NGC, Bogota mint, KM187.2 (3 Known), Restrepo-408.1. Small Size. Struck to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of America. Rare in Proof, with only three posited to exist by the Standard Catalog of World Coins. The surfaces remain attractively glassy and reflective, veiled in a delicate patina and bearing traces of pearlescence at a slant. Though the faintest hairline marks are likely the only factor limiting the assigned certification, these are very difficult to discern without the aid of magnification, with the result that this impressive near-gem boasts a degree of eye appeal that seems well beyond that which is implied by its designation.
