Comme des Garcons | 2019 Single-Breast Wool Blazer

[ translate ]

A Comme des Garccedil;ons black reconstructed wool single-breasted blazer with a notch lapel circa 2019. The blazer is constructed with a waistcoat fitted element creating a bodice within the blazer. The sleeves and sides are attached at the shoulder and then towards the coat's hem. The seams bordering the vest are open and have raw edges. The blazer is lined with black cotton for all of its internal components. Black buttons are at the front single-breasted closure. A Comme des Garccedil;ons label is sewn on the interior marked a size XS and made in Japan. This jacket's tailoring mirrors Kawakubo's spring 2018 construction for runway look nine where the dual design has a dress constructed within the blazer a tailored A-line dress with sleeves shoulders and sides serving as an outline to the center garment.

Sarah Mower who reviewed Kawakubo's spring 2019 collection noted how the tailoring referenced female psychology and the gender double standard writing "I have never seen a more searingly accurate image of internalized female psychological conditioning than in looks 12 and 13 from her Spring show. They had heavy chains strapped beneath their second-skin dresses shackles spilling from their hems and sleeves clanking as they walked. On their shoulders were lopped-off tailored jackets as if somehow their flesh had been flayed or peeled back to illustrate exactly what it is to carry binding limitations within your own anatomy: Can't do this shouldn't do that shut up put up and carry on.

Rei Kawakubo began Comme des Garcons the label in 1969; the company was founded in 1973. Since its early years Kawakubo's designs were designed to showcase the foundations and serve as an antithesis of fashion and the guidelines of good taste. In 2017 The Costume Institute celebrated her work with its annual exhibition at The MET which had 140 designs on display. Her designs go against conventional beauty and showcase raw unfinished elements to confront and spotlight the unusual.
