Condor Agate Andes Mountains Mendoza Province Argentina Named after the iconic bird native to the Andes, the Andean condor, this stunning Condor Agate features the attractive characteristics and banding collectors desire. Hand-collected from remote and harsh deposits in Patagonia, this 'new kid on the block' is something to behold. This particular example is dense, with dozens of alternating bands of various shades, creating one fantastic offering. The center of the Agate features a drusy Quartz-lined geode pocket with a light pink shade. Radiating out from this central point is a myriad of alternating contoured banding starting with pink, white, orange, and a brown plume section, which then transitions into rich bands of red, orange, and blue topped with a thin 'skin' of earthy Rhyolite. A small amount of this material has a fluorescent habit, and this one lights up with a neon green hue under Shortwave ultraviolet light. Such Agates are found in nodular form, collected, transported, and then cut and polished to reveal these bold specimens. This is a top example of the colorful and highly collectible material. Measurements: 5.94 x 3.55 x 2.51 inches (15.10 x 9.02 x 6.37 cm) HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
