Partially printed bond, 1p, 9.125 x 4.625 in., Charleston, SC. October 1, 1864. Numbered, "2724" with blockade runner pictured at center. Certifies that M.P. O'Conner is entitled to one share in the "Capital Stock of the Charleston Importing and Exporting Company, of the Confederate States," worth $1,000. Signed at lower right by Henry Cobia, the company's president. The Charleston Importing and Exporting Company traded goods during the Civil War, evading the Federal naval blockade, and its primary mercantile vessel, the Gem, executed two successful trips to England.
