Confederate P-1853 Enfield Rifle Import

[ translate ]

Rare P-1853 Enfield pattern rifle manufactured by Witton Bros. of London, England and imported during the Civil War for use by the Confederacy. The mark "SHG4" underneath a crown located in front of the gun's buttplate tang indicates this example was run through the blockade by merchant firm "Sinclair, Hamilton and Co." of London. While imported guns by the Confederacy are always desirable, this example is particularly rare in that few "Witton Bros." manufactured rifles are known to have been sourced for use by "Sinclair, Hamilton, and Co."

Gun is a standard P-1853 rifle in configuration and size. Standard London commercial barrel proofs. These markings as well the "Witton Bros." stamp are filled with chalk to improve their legibility (easily removed). Metal of the gun has a plum patina without any serious pitting or scratches. Photos are representative of general condition, which is fine. Bore is in average condition. Mechanically functional.

[Civil War, Union, Confederate, Rifle, Firearm, Antique Firearm, Blockade, Pistol, Musket, Revolver, Colt, Smith and Wesson]
