Confederate Surgeon’s Kit
Small surgical instrument box, 7-½”x3-¾”x 1-½”, with bone engraved plate reading “Surgeon C. Duffy 24 N. Car l n.” No instruments. Good condition. Charles Duffy enlisted with the 24th North Carolina in May 1861 and became acting assistant surgeon for that regiment in July 1861. He then transferred to 54th NC in 1864 and presumably performed the same role.
