Continental Porcelain Charger of Russian Interest

Nineteenth Century. Painted with a portrait of Ivan I Danilovich Kalita of Moscow, seated in a chair gilt with foliate scrollwork within a zigzag border and surmounted by a cross, superimposed upon the Russian Imperial eagle and surrounded by the identifying inscription in gold and red Cyrillic letters, within a border of dark blue and green cartouches, inscribed in over-glaze black enamel on the reverse "Marie et E. Egoroff/ 82. Avenue Wagram. Paris.," printed factory mark "B & Co" bisected by "CM." in green. Ivan I Danilovich Kalita of Moscow (1822-1340) was the Grand Prince of Moscow (1328-40) and Grand Prince of Vladimir (1331-40). His policies increased Moscow's power and made it the richest principality in northeastern Russia. H: 1.625 in., Diam.: 18 in.
