First edition. 3 vols. The official account of Cook's first voyage edited from his journals by Hawkesworth. Cook's voyage occupies volume 2 and 3; the first volume contains the official accounts of the voyages of Byron, Wallis and Carteret. Slightly browned, partially spotted or water-stained, plates occasionally creased or reinforced at the folds, mostly with light off-setting, occasional marginal tears or fraying, one half-title (pp. 523/524) together with attached map of the Strait of Magellan and few other leaves loose or loosening, small loss to map (partially backed, minor loss of image), title page and front pastedown with collector's stamp and signature, respectively. - Contemporary blind-stamped calf with 2 colored spine labels; spines renewed in parchment, endpapers renewed, slightly spotted and scratched, corners occasionally little bumped.
