This film was directed by Stuart Rosenberg, and stars Paul Newman and features George Kennedy, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Newman had the leading role as Luke, who was sentenced to two years in a Florida prison and who refused to comply with the rules. The film contains one of cinema's well known scenes, where Luke eats fifty hard boiled eggs in just one hour! It also has one of the most memorable lines, said by the Captain to Luke: "What we've got here is failure to communicate!"
