Height 8. 5 cm. 18 cm diameter between the handles.

PROVENANCE: Private collection of gallery owner Claude Bernard (1929-2022) , Paris. Founder of the Claude Bernard gallery in Paris, he has represented as a dealer from Alberto Giacometti to David Hockney, Balthus, Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and Zoran Music, and for the last sixty-five years he has represented the greatest artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

CONDITION: Broken from three original fragments, two in the body and one break in the handle.

DESCRIPTION:

A skyphos is a two-handled deep wine-cup on a low flanged base or none. The handles may be horizontal ear-shaped thumbholds that project from the rim (in both Corinthian and Athenian shapes) , or they may be loop handles at the rim or that stand away from the lower part of the body. Skyphoi of the type called glaux (owl) have one horizontal and one vertical thumbhold handle.
