This episode has been often depicted in art since the Renaissance. Marc Chagall and Gustav Klimt also revisited the theme of Salome (or Judith) . This Indian ink drawing is characterised by the clear, confident line of a painter who tried to capture Modernity through the intensity of the line in the vein of Matisse and Picasso. It is reminiscent of David Hockney in the same sense of selection of detail and in the frank gesture of the hand, both erudite painters and art historians.
