Corneille Guillaume Beverloo, better known as Corneille (Liège, July 3, 1922 - Auvers-sur-Oise (France) , September 5, 2010) was a Dutch painter from the Cobra movement. Corneille was born to Dutch parents in the Belgian Liège. Although largely self-taught, he attended art courses at the Amsterdam National Academy between 1940 and 1942. In 1946 he had his first exhibition in Groningen. Initially strongly influenced by Picasso's work, he dissociated himself from it in 1948 and joined the Cobra movement; he is one of the co-founders, together with i. a. Karel Appel, Jan Nieuwenhuijs, his brother Constant Nieuwenhuijs, and the Belgians artists Christian Dotremont and Joseph Noiret.
