Very large format: 76 x 87 cm
Retrospective Guillaume Corneille in Belgium in 2024.

“Bird born from the landscape” – A work close to the “Tribe” series.

An insect-bird flies over African lands. Traveling artist, Guillaume Corneille gives a nod to his Cobra beginnings. His passion for Africa was awakened very early in the 1940s when he decided to reproduce Paul Klee's trip to Tunisia. Passionate about reading Levi-Strauss and the first cinematographic reports on Africa, Guillaume Corneille and his first wife Henny Riemens embarked in 1956 on the crazy project of crossing the continent by jeep to be in total immersion with the different ethnic groups and landscapes. It was after the disappearance of his first wife that he decided to return to Africa one last time. The work “The bird born from the landscape” follows this journey.
