The second generation of the Cortina was designed under the direction of Roy Haynes and sold starting from 1966. In Italy the launch was accompanied by the slogan "The new Cortina is more Cortina" (cortina in Italian can also mean short). The car was 4.27 m long, appearing shorter than the ancestor, 6 cm larger and increased habitability.
