The famous guitarist of Zz Top Billy Gibbons entered into a collaboration with Cream T pickups and Thomas Nilsen, the famous pickup designer.

The original Banger

The result of a close collaboration between Billy F Gibbons and Thomas Nilsen (Cream T Pickups) . The 'Original Banger' is a vintage output humbucker pickup with only 6 poles and a gray fiberboard top. Billy F Gibbons designed the pickup and wanted a vintage look by using gray colored fiber material. He also indicated that the high side of the pole pieces should be further away from the bridge on the guitar. Billy F Gibbons then attached the red tape to complete the look. Thomas Nilsen of Cream T came up with the idea of using 42 and 42 awg wire on each spool. Each coil has 50% 42awg and 50% 43awg wire which provides a unique tone that both Billy F Gibbons and Thomas Nilsen found very unique. This is complemented by Billy F Gibbon's idea of having the high side off the bridge and the low side close to the bridge. The 'Original Banger' turned out to be a magical connection between these two main features.
