Cross - Copper, Silver laminated, gigantic processional cross - 1970-1980

Large and unique silver-plated Coptic processional cross of Mary, from Ethiopia.

This rare cross belongs to the group of processional crosses that accompany every procession of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. It has a hollow shaft for mounting on a wooden handle so that it can be carried above people's heads during processions and religious ceremonies. The two circular arms below the cross are designed to carry the cloth that adorns the cross when worn by the deacons, in memory of the vestments of Christ. The cross is made by hand using the lost wax method, which makes it unique.

This authentic, refined cross shows signs of use. The construction is sturdy enough to stand on its own.

The origin of this cross can be traced to a local trader in Ethiopia.
