Description
This painted work depicts a caravan travelling across the snow-covered Kunlun Mountains. Pale ink washes create the vast snowy landscape with falling snowflakes and birds flying in the cold sky. A traveller with red cap and heavy coat leads two laden camels carrying goods forward through snow. The camels are rendered in freehand brushwork with rich ink gradation, robust and lifelike. Withered grasses are painted in the foreground, reinforcing the bleak wilderness. With bold and concise brushwork, the painting conveys the grand and desolate atmosphere of the ancient Silk Road, a fine modern painting of western China theme.
