Crown Lynn Wharetana Maori "Moko" Ceramic Book Ends
Crown Lynn was a New Zealand pottery house with a long history. In the 1960's-70's they made pieces for New Zealand Museum Gift Shops. The Wharetana Range are "A story of Mythology and legend symbolised in Beautiful and intricate Maori Carving". These book ends are copies of Maori masks carved in wood. The brown glaze looks like wood, and the tattoos, "Moko", were worn by leaders. The practice was stopped, but is making a come back, with many Maori men and women wearing them again. These authentic Crown Lynn book ends are 5 3/4" tall, 3 7/8" wide, and 4" deep. Not marked, but it may be under the felt base which we have not removed.
