Crystal-Clear Tintype of Union Cavalryman

The subject of this high-quality tintype photograph is the prototypical Yankee horse soldier, armed and ready for action. Between the crossed-saber insignia on his cap, lined shell jacket, reinforced trousers, and leather gauntlets, this unknown cavalryman is more than ready to defend the Union. Of interest is what appears to be a short rifle, perhaps a carbine, resting against the photographer’s plain backdrop behind him. The condition of this sixth-plate tintype is outstanding - truly mint. Housed in a full leather case.
