Cuprite with Malachite on Chrysocolla Mashamba West Mine, Sicomines copper-cobalt project, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo 6...

Cuprite with Malachite on Chrysocolla Mashamba West Mine, Sicomines copper-cobalt project, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo 6.0 x 3.7 x 1.7 cm (2.36 x 1.46 x 0.67 in) As if glancing at a top-down view of a river cutting across a rocky landscape, a thin teal bed of Chrysocolla stretches across the center of the specimen's front face with two points of exposed matrix on the top and bottom of the display. Isolated atop the Chrysocolla is a single doubly terminated, 0.9-centimeter, pseudo-octahedral crystal of Cuprite. Along with its metallic luster, the Cuprite has a dark steely grey appearance that shows subtle subsurficial flares of crimson when closely illuminated on its sides. As a nice accent, small groups of dark green Malachite crystals are presented atop the frontmost face of the Cuprite and dot its perimeter. From the collection of John Warn [DRC2525j].
