Cuprosklodowskite Musonoi Mine, Kolwezi Kolwezi District, Katanga (Shaba) Democratic Republic of the Congo Extremely colorful minerals can often be an indicator of something else, and often, bright yellow, orange or green pieces, as with this massive specimen of Cuprosklodowskite, can indicate they are radioactive - which is the case here. The tonal green hue of this sizable example is surreal and nearly out of gamut. An impressive mineral for color alone, this "hot" rock features patches of grassy green fibrous crystals on an organic palette of lighter green with some light taupe-brown of matrix coming through to the face of the rock. This example exhibits exceptional color to its acicular crystals and it is relatively large for the variety.
