[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Scythian, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. A copper blade with a curved edge and a faint midrib that runs along the center. A green and russet colored patina covers the surface. The Scythians were skilled riders who traveled from central Asia and settled in an area near the Black Sea. Influenced by the Persian Empire, their swords were often curved, such as this knife blade. The five perforations along the edge of the blade could be for attaching this blade to a shaft as a spear-like weapon or for attaching a handle for use as a knife. Size: 12.125" L x 1.43" W (30.8 cm x 3.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-Estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
