Custom Made Stand Up Bass Banjo

Rare stand up bass banjo made in 1982 by John Thompson. Only a few bass banjos exist and were made by Gibson between 1929 and 1930 and were custom order. Thompson, a banjo player himself in a banjo band had heard of these rare instruments but, unable to locate one, he decided to build his own. with the help of a machinist friend. The result is a beautiful instrument that stands about 6' tall including the peg, has a steel rod reinforced maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, and a 26" diameter head. There is a resonator attached behind the head. In overall VG condition, it comes with a framed story about Mr. Thompson and how he built it. Overall measures 60" long without the detachable 12" peg, and 28" in diameter. There is no case for this instrument. This item customer pickup or 3rd party transporter only.
