[ translate ]

The Collection of Geraldine and Harold Alden
Cy Twombly
1928 - 2011

Untitled
signed Cy Twombly, dated 1957 and inscribed Procida (on the reverse)
oil based house paint, colored pencil and graphite on canvas
9⅝ by 11⅞ in.
24.4 by 30.2 cm.
Executed in 1957.

Condition Report:
This work is in good condition overall. There are networks of mechanical cracking throughout the composition with associated and scattered minute losses. There are scattered areas of light discoloration throughout the central composition and along the edges, which appear to be from the adhesive used to consolidate the aforementioned cracking, which fluoresce brightly under Ultraviolet light inspection. Also under Ultraviolet light inspection, scattered areas along the edges of the canvas fluoresce darkly and appear to have benefitted from retouching. The canvas appears to have been lined. Framed under Plexiglas.

Framed dimensions: 16 1/4 by 18 1/8 in. (41.3 by 46 cm.)

Provenance:
Private Collection, New York (acquired directly from the artist)
Sotheby's New York, 2 May 1985, lot 9
Acquired from the above by the present owner
