(D) MUSEUM LEVEL FANTASTIC CONDITION AMERICAN AND

Absolutely fantastic American and British Manufacturing Company, Bridgeport, CT manufactured 37mm 1 Pounder gun on original U.S. wooden wheeled and steel mount. No rear sight present, but includes brass and wood shoulder rest, wood handle bore brush, wooden handle for trail socket, and contemporary plastic covered lanyard with wooden handle, and front sight numbered 428. Also includes 8 empty brass cartridge cases and 4 handloaded lead projectile cartridges within beautiful steel ammunition boxes. Attractive U.S. Navy markings with inspector’s proofs on brass trunnion collar, serial “477” which matches shoulder rest. Gun tube is dated 1903 with brass collar dated 1902 and this gun is registered with the BATF as a Destructive Device and subject to the provisions of the National Firearms Act. For those who might be unfamiliar with the transfer process required to take possession of this gun, please call Morphy’s for details and ask for “Information on how NFA transfers work”. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is simply outstanding in all respects, a real eye catcher, near excellent lustrous blue finish with just a couple spots where a tiny bit of pitting started and then was cleaned. Markings are crisp and clean as are lines. Brass furnishings retain a beautiful shine. Bronze furnishing of beautiful reproduction ammunition boxes are also near excellent, as is Navy blue gray restoration quality paint on steel portions of carriage. Wooden wheels are near excellent with steel tires having typical paint loss at contact points. Mechanics are fine. Bore is extremely fine with crisp rifling. Receiver chamber and breechblock extremely fine to near excellent. An absolutely striking and fabulous piece for the U.S. Navy and turn of the Century cannon collector well worth the wait of transfer.
