Title: DARK MYSTERIES No. 8
Place Published:
Publisher:Story, aka Master/Merit [Indicia: Master Comics, Inc.]
Date Published: August-September, 1952
Description:

CGC certified: G/VG (3.0). Off-white to white pages. No cover or script credits. Art: John D'Agostino, A.C. Hollingsworth, Doug Wildey? GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 3.5 sold for $141 in April 2000.

A man marries a corpse in "Don't Marry a Dead One!," possibly by Doug Wildey. The cover, depicting a shotgun wedding from hell, has little in common with the actual story. The assembly-line production standards of most pre-Code comics ensured that covers often had only a passing resemblance to the stories contained inside. "This approach to cover design was widespread in pre-Code horror comics — due to the technical nature in which covers and interior stories were farmed out to different sets of artists." — George Suarez, Tales Too Terrible To Tell #7. NEC: 1992-93, p. 45.

A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.

Consignments welcome for PBA's December 2021 Comic Book sale. Top prices for Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age, Silver Age, original art and ephemera. Send inquiries to ivan@pbagalleries.com.
