DIE PIENK HUIS (THE PINK HOUSE) signed and dated David Botha '30 lower left acrylic on board 52.3 x 77.5cm (69 x 94.5cm framed) Property from a Private Collection, Cambridge Provenance Acquired directly from artist Thence by descent to the previous owner Acquired from the above by The DinksFãStan Private Collection, Cambridge, UK David Johannes Botha was a second-generation Cape Impressionist painter and graphic artist known for capturing the unique atmosphere of the Western Cape. Born in Graaff-Reinet in December 1921, he qualified as an art teacher from the Cape Town Teachers Training College in 1941, was first married to artist Nerine Desmond, and taught art at various high schools in Paarl from 1946 to 1979. He studied at the Camberwell School of Art in London from 1950 to 1952, travelling through France, Italy, and Spain and later traveled to Europe and the Middle East in 1967. Botha became celebrated for his evocative paintings of historic Cape architecture, white-walled houses, and rural cottages. Often set against moody overcast skies, wet streets, and gnarled winter trees, his signature house scenes preserved the heritage of typical rural Cape towns with a quiet, nostalgic quality. As noted by Esmé Berman in her seminal biography of South African artists, his works preserve a record of this quietly aging atmosphere and enjoy extensive patronage, particularly in his home province, alongside more than 50 solo exhibitions and holdings in major institutional collections such as the Iziko South African National Gallery.DIE PIENK HUIS (THE PINK HOUSE) signed and dated David Botha '30 lower left acrylic on board 52.3 x 77.5cm (69 x 94.5cm framed) Property from a Private Collection, Cambridge Provenance Acquired directly from artist Thence by descent to the previous owner Acquired from the above by The DinksFãStan Private Collection, Cambridge, UK David Johannes Botha was a second-generation Cape Impressionist painter and graphic artist known for capturing the unique atmosphere of the Western Cape.
