[ translate ]

DAVID JOHNSON
1827 - 1908
OLD KATES BRIDGE, RIFTON GLEN, ULSTER COUNTY, NEW YORK

signed with artist's monogram DJ and dated 72 (lower right); also titled - A Study from nature - / Old Kates Bridge. Rifton Glen. / Ulster Co. / N-Y., signed again David Johnson. and dated again 1872. (on the reverse prior to lining)
oil on canvas
14 ⅜ by 24 ⅜ inches
(36.5 by 61.9 cm)

Condition Report:
The work is lined, tacked to modern stretchers and the extreme edges covered in brown tape. There is surface cracking throughout, most noticeably in the blue and white pigments of the sky, and stretcher bar marks along each edge. There are frame abrasions along the extreme outer edges. Under UV: there appear to be pindots and small spots of inpaint throughout the composition and to address frame abrasions along the extreme outer edges. Although some pigments do read strongly under UV, particularly in the darker areas of pigment in the lower half of the composition and tops of the green trees, they appear to be the artist's original.
