DE GAULLE CHARLES: (1890-1970) French General of World War II. Later President of the French Republic 1959-69. T.L.S., C. de Gaulle, with two lines annotation in his hand, one page, 4to, Paris, 30st August 1962, to Jacques Vendroux, on his printed letterhead bearing `Le Général De Gaulle´, in French. De Gaulle, as President of the French states in part `The testimony of the dear city of Calais has particularly touched us, my wife and I ´ adding to beginning and conclusion of the letter and in his hand `My dear Deputy.. Very friendly to you.´ The letter is signed by President De Gaulle only six days after the ''Petit-Clamart'' coup d´état. Folded, VG Jacques Philippe Vendroux (1897-1988) De Gaulle´s brother in law, brother of Yvonne de Gaulle. Deputy at the Pas de Calais and President of the European parliament in 1967. The ''Petit Clamart'' coup d´état took place on 22nd August 1962 at Clamart. The failed coup was named by the instigators as ''Opération Charlotte Corday''. Leaded by Lieutenant Colonel Bastien-Thiry, member of the OAS group, the target was the assassination of General de Gaulle.
