Chiparus was at the forefront of the Art Deco style and his detailed and
refined sculptures epitomise the dynamism, elegance and glamour of the period. This sculpture, conceived in 1925, is believed to have been
inspired by Anita Delgado, a flamenco dancer who captured the heart of the
Maharajah of Kapurthala when he saw her perform at a café while attending the
wedding of Spain’s King Alfonso XIII. Similar examples are illustrated:
