Besides the usual funny strips, Wheeler-Nicholson created strips from classic novels like Treasure Island, The Three Musketeers, and others. This was a precursor of what was to come. Although his newspaper syndicate did not last, his success as a writer enabled him to move his wife and children to Paris and to an ancient castle in Vic-sur-Aisne. The castle would appear several times in some of Wheeler-Nicholson's best stories including 'The Road Without Turning,' one of three short stories nominated for an O. Henry Award. With the advent of the Great Depression, Wheeler-Nicholson's earnings from writing dwindled, causing the family to return to the United States and face hardship like so many others." — Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson, "The Major Who Made Comics," Famous First Edition: New Fun #1, C-63. DC: 2019 (unpaginated).****************************************

PBA is proud to present this epic collection in a series of themed sales, including The DC UNIVERSE COLLECTION Part 3: The GOLDEN AGE, coming this summer.
