From a summer studio on Monhegan Island, Maine, and a winter studio in Exeter, New Hampshire, Donald Stone painted landscapes and water scenes in a highly Impressionist style. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and taught in Boston at the Vesper George School of Art and the New England School of Art. Along with a watercolor snow scene of a farm.
